A team of students from Mr. Morales’ Entrepreneurship class won first place in the final round of the Fed Challenge on April 21, 2009. The Lehman team included Diana Frias, Steven Silvia, Pedro Cuebas & Glenda Rodriquez. Together they rose above 20 other schools at this competition which is held every year at the Federal Reserve Bank in the heart of the Wall Street district. This competition is designed to bring real-world economics into the classroom. The goals of this competition are to increase understanding of the Federal Reserve's role in setting U.S. monetary policy and to develop students' research, cooperation, presentation and critical-thinking skills.The judges evaluated the students knowledge of the Federal Reserve, monetary policy, and current economic conditions; response to judges' questions; quality of presentation; quality of research and analysis; and teamwork. Lehman’s team impressed the judges with their presentation. Each member contributed by demonstrating their understanding of key concepts in their answers to the judges challenging questions. Achievement Awards Celebration!On Thursday, May 21, 2009 the Academy of Computer Technology, Justice Academy, World of Work and Performing Arts houses and the joined forces with the Business, Technology, Music and Art Department to celebrate their students’ achievements. Students and their families enjoyed a light dinner prior to the awards presentation in the auditorium. Students were presented with awards in recognition of their academic achievement, service, leadership and excellence in Business, Technology, Music and Art.
This event has grown every year since Ms. Peters and Mr. Li teamed up four years ago to for a small awards ceremony in the library that gathered no more than 30-40 people. Since then, it has become a full blown stage production that feeds and entertains over 200 students, parents, faculty and staff.
Naima Rivera opened the evening with her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
A group of talented singers led by Mr. Baboff provided a musical interlude. Lourdes Arias, Nandanie Dunderath and Arianna Goodin performed Hey Little Child, an original composition by Alan Baboff and Fred Lederman.
The students of the Drama Club added to the evening’s festivities with an encore performance of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Footloose from this year’s spring musical “Back to the 80’s.”
Dr. Bekkala and her students contribute their artistic talent by tastefully decorating the lobby and auditorium. The cover and back page of this year’s program included artwork from two students in your class Dr. Bekkala’s class. These drawings made this year’s program special, unique and beautiful.
The Mr. DiGruccio, Dr. Bekkala, Mr. Rose, Ms. Kaplan, Mr. Elia, Mr. Bland, Mr. Baboff, Mr. Morales, Mr. Rader and Mr. Li worked together as a team to create a memorable evening for the students and their families.
Special thanks go to Ms. Pinto and the Parents’ Association for serving dinner and providing coffee and cake for the event.
Computer Forensics Class Wins Awards
Students from the Lehman Computer Forensics class won Outstanding Group Presentation and Best Technical Analysis at the 3rd Annual Computer Forensics Competition on May 8, 2009 at Pace Seidenberg School of Computer Studies. Computer forensic techniques are frequently used in to gather evidence when investigating crimes that committed with the help of computers. The main challenge of this competition was to investigate a fictional case of computer software theft. The task was to present the evidence that they discovered to the president of the fictional gaming company “Really Great Games.” The team narrowed the list potential suspects down to disgruntled employee or a hacker from China. As is turns out, it was an “inside job.” The owner of the company was illegally selling his company’s software to Asian bootleggers.
